Today’s classhack is a gift from Darryl, a student at HCC’s Fort Campbell campus. He has discovered Flashcard Machine, whose tagline is “create, study, and share online flashcards.” The site’s free app is available for iPhone and iPad from the App store, and for Android devices from Google play. It is also available for use on Kindle devices. Users can generate a personalized deck of flashcards or explore the vast library of premade cards. Groups of students can collaborate on a set of cards.
Teachers can also take advantage of Flashcard Machine by creating a custom set of cards for any course they teach. We can imagine using the app as part of a “Read Chapter 5 AND….” assignment, as students might be asked to “Read Chapter 5 and create 7 flashcards for the main ideas in the text.” Students often enjoy using the technology in their hands to produce a product. A class account could be created with teacher-approved cards. Check it out at www.flashcardmachine.com.
